Had a great day with my poets yesterday - woke me up a bit poetically.

Just ordered Ellen Bass' latest collection. Need a bit of visceral. Also been reminded of Jean Valentine (reminded myself).

Yes, I think you'd really like Sealskin.

The roe deer have been back in our field every day since!

With love

Rxrosellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00971482422276765335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5055598777203654547.post-57832383561573721862017-03-03T14:06:36.407+00:002017-03-03T14:06:36.407+00:00. . .'midwife and wisewoman'. . . Well yes.... . .'midwife and wisewoman'. . . Well yes, I'd say that was a very good description of you, Roselle, though I dare say confinement has never been so long as in my case! But then my mother suffered from uterine inertia, not wanting to let us go.

Anyway, I love these ragbags of yours and this one's generously rich with gifts and inspiration. Alice Thomas Ellis's book is The Inn at the Edge of the World (just googled it). I, too, loved it. The whole subject fascinates me. It's ages since I've read it. Would like to read Su Bristol's Sealskin.
The other gem is: 'if we can only love others but not ourselves then we can barely love at all.' I remember Erich Fromm from somewhere, probably Uni/psych social work days. It's taken me a long time to really accept it and now it's a conviction. Too many don't agree though.
. . . 'jealousy (as being) like a tree with no leaves' is also startling and incredibly wise for an under-11.

New poetry? Sharon Olds latest – Odes? J chuckled as he read it in Waterstones so I bought it for his b'day. I'm yet to read most of it. I think she's either loved or hated, though I'm not so sure where I stand.
That's all from me. Enjoy the fireside and happy reading, weedwifery, cooking (loved the sound of pot&beet patties, shall try over weekend – cooking, not hearing!)
Miri x
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
